Dental Emergencies

At Wai‘alae Dental Care, our Doctors reserve time in their daily schedules for emergency patients. If you have a dental emergency, call our office at (808) 732-4377, and provide as much detail as possible about your condition.

Here are some tips for handling some common dental emergencies:

Bitten Lip or Tongue

Clean the area gently with a cloth and apply cold compresses to reduce any swelling. If the bleeding doesn't stop, go to a hospital emergency room immediately.

Broken Tooth

Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area. Use cold compresses on the area to keep any swelling down. Call our office immediately at (808) 732-4377.

Jaw-Possibly Broken

Control the swelling by applying a cold compress to your jaw. Call our office at (808) 732-4377, or go to a hospital emergency room immediately.

Knocked Out Tooth

If your tooth has fallen out of your mouth, rinse the root of your tooth by holding your tooth by the crown and immersing it in water. Be sure not to scrub it or to remove any attached tissue fragments. Carefully replace your tooth in its socket and hold your tooth in place. If that isn’t possible, immerse your tooth in milk and call our office immediately at (808) 732-4377.

Objects Caught Between Teeth

Objects can usually be removed by gently flossing your teeth with dental floss. Be careful to avoid cutting your gums. Never use a sharp instrument to remove an object that is stuck between your teeth. If you can’t dislodge the object using dental floss, call our office at (808) 732-4377.

Toothache

Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area. Gently use dental floss or an interdental cleaner to ensure that there is no food or other debris caught between your teeth. Never put aspirin or any other painkiller against the gums near the aching tooth because it may burn the gum tissue. If the pain persists, contact our office at (808) 732-4377.
